Korle Bu holds ‘Health Fest’ to mark centenary celebrations

The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital considers holistic health care provision as a means to ensuring total wellbeing and healing.

The health facility, commemorating 100 years of existence has pledged to adopt new and improved ways of doing things to meet the changing needs of patients and clientele base.

Established in 1923, Ghana’s premiere tertiary health facility, has grown from an initial 200 bed capacity to 2,000. It is currently the third largest hospital in Africa and the leading national referral centre in Ghana.

The three-day event which forms part of 100 activities/ projects scheduled by the hospital for a period of one year, will provide a platform for healthcare providers to connect, share with patients while reflecting on the history, impact and legacy of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

CEO of the Hospital Dr. Opoku Ware Ampomaa at the official launch of the ‘Health Fest’ said the facility in the next three days will offer services including free health screenings and other consultative opportunities for its staff, patients and the community at large.

“This event is also a call to action for all participants to contribute in their own way to the hospital’s future, as it boldly steps into the next century.  Korle Bu faces some financial limitations that you know hamper its ability to be self-sufficient in acquiring the resources, equipment and infrastructure necessary for optimal operation. It is here that the support of philanthropic organizations and individuals have been given up over the past 100 years, and will continue to be so in the future that we want to use this opportunity to express our deepest gratitude to all past donors for their invaluable Help and Support,” he said.

Exhibitors from the various departments of the hospital as well as their partners will have the chance to showcase their products and services as well.

The yearlong celebration which will end in October is under the theme: “Hundred years of leadership in quality healthcare delivery, through training, research, innovation, and partnerships.
