Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s flagbearer, has revealed a forward-looking strategy to advance Ghana’s digital economy with a series of transformative initiatives.
Central to this vision is the training of one million youth in digital skills. The NPP believes that equipping young Ghanaians with these skills will enhance employability, drive innovation, and position the nation competitively on the global stage.
A key component of the plan is the establishment of a National Robotics, Engineering, and AI Lab. This facility is intended to spearhead cutting-edge research and development in robotics and artificial intelligence, further driving technological progress.
Supporting tech startups is also a major focus. The NPP aims to provide funding and resources to nurture emerging businesses and innovative technologies. This initiative is expected to stimulate entrepreneurial growth and foster technological breakthroughs that will propel Ghana’s economy forward. Notably, Ghana currently ranks 4th in the global startup ecosystem but 88th worldwide, highlighting the potential for growth.
The plan also emphasizes improving internet access, with the NPP aiming to increase internet penetration from the current 70% to over 90%. This expansion will ensure that nearly every Ghanaian has access to reliable digital connectivity.
Additionally, the party intends to address high data costs by reducing internet prices, a move driven by ongoing concerns over expensive data rates on major social media platforms.
These initiatives underscore the NPP’s commitment to leveraging digital technology as a key driver of economic development and innovation in Ghana.
