Akrofuom queenmother donates medical items to Akrofuom Health Center
The Queenmother of Akrofuom, Nana Abenaa Durowaa I, has donated medical items including BP apparatus, thermometer, glucometer, wheel chair, screen, and walking aid to the Akrofuom Health Center.
There were also donations from the Akrofuom Traditional Council and Small Scale miners in the Akrofuom District.
The gesture by the Queenmother was part of her continuous efforts to support quality healthcare delivery at the Center.
Nana Abenaa Durowaa I has been instrumental in supporting the healthcare system in the Akrofuom District.
She has been key in equipping the Maternity Ward as well as other units of the health center.
Presenting the items on behalf of the Queenmother, the Ahenemahene of Akrofuom, Nana Asare Bediako, lauded the vision of the Queenmother to ensure the people of Akrofuom have access to quality healthcare.
He added that one of the objectives of the Queenmother was to promote the health of the people because no meaningful development could take place without good health.
He also joined the appeal made by Nana Abenaa Durowaa I for natives of Akrofuom both home and abroad to support the Akrofuom community.
Nana Asare Bediako also commended the small-scale miners in the district for supporting the health facility.
This he said was in response to calls by the Queenmother for an all hands on deck approach to support healthcare delivery.
The Akrofuom Health Center has undergone tremendous changes over the years.
According to the Chief Executive of the Akrofuom District Assembly, Dr. Maurice Jonas Woode, the Assembly has committed resources into enhancing the facilities at the center including building isolation center during Covid-19 outbreak, painting the entire facility and giving a facelift to the OPD center.
He said other well meaning natives of Akrofuom have also put up a laboratory and provided equipment to the center, all to complement efforts of the Assembly.
He applauded the Queenmother for her donation and her project to rally natives to support healthcare delivery at Akrofuom.
On the state of health facilities in the district, Dr. Maurice Jonas Woode said there were two health centers at Akrofuom and Amponyase and four CHPS compound at Sikaman, Mensonso, Gromesa and Wamase.
Due to population growth, he said efforts were made to establish more health facilities to boost access to healthcare .
“We built one CHPS compound at Fenanso Nkwanta, Alata and Adumensaso, Kubi whiles those at other places are at different stages of completion,” he said.
The DCE again commended the traditional council and the small scale miners for donating chairs to the facility.
The District Director of Health Services, John Baffoe Yeboah, said the items donated were going to support the facility to provide optimum healthcare for patients who visit the facility.
He said though the Government and the Assembly have been supporting them, they still require other benevolent groups and individuals to come in and offer support to them.
He mentioned shortfalls in workforce supply as the main challenge facing health facilities in the district, adding that the lack of accommodation has prevented health workers from accepting postings to the district.
He lauded the Queenmother of Akrofuom for her support and her call for natives of Akrofuom to come on board and assist the facility to perform its mandate.
