‘We still believe in his innocence’ – Lil Win’s lawyers on accident that killed 3-year-old boy

The lawyer representing Ghanaian actor Kwadwo Nkansah, better known as Lil Win, has maintained her client’s innocence in the accident that resulted in the death of a three-year-old boy.

The attorney stated that while the court awaited advice from the Attorney General’s office, he was optimistic that her client would escape prosecution.

During the previous court hearing on June 27, the prosecution told the court that it forwarded the docket to the Office of the Attorney General awaiting advice.

At the court proceedings on Monday, 29th July 2024, the court again noted that the docket is still under study at the Attorney General’s office.

Addressing journalists after court proceedings on Monday, July 29, Margaret Mary Adjei Twum said Lil Win is still innocent until proven otherwise.

“We want to think as reasonable human beings. And then we pray that as time flies, the family of the deceased will have some sort of comfort, and closure. We are not so much conscious about the money. Now we pray that the family members will be healed and then things will be fine.”

“We will defend because we are so standing on his innocence. We still believe in his innocence until proven otherwise. We will still pursue our posture and the theory of our case will change when we have the reports from the Attorney General,” she said.

She emphasised that her client has been negatively affected by the incidents and its antecedent negative comment.

“In fact, those incidents have really affected him. The way we were praying that the movie, ‘A Country Called Ghana’, how it was supposed to go because of the accidents and the media and also the negative comments around it has somehow affected the movie itself. But what can you say? Somebody is dead. So we are not thinking in terms of comics.”

The actor was arrested on the morning of Monday, June 3 shortly after he was discharged from the Komfo Anokye Teaching hospital.

His arrest is in connection with an accident that occurred on Saturday, May 25 which had claimed the life of a three-year-old boy. The accident took place hours to the premiere of his movie, ‘A Country Called Ghana.’

Lil Win was subsequently granted GH¢50,000 bail with two sureties by the court.
