There is no way the Electoral Commission (EC) can change the election results in favour of any candidate, Chair of the Commission, Jean Mensa, has said.

Madam Jean Mensa said this while assuring Parliament that any staff of the commission who will misbehave during the elections his year will be sanctioned.

She further assured that the Commission would not take any questionable conduct lightly at all.

“I can assure you if any of our staff misbehaves we would not take it lightly. We will sanction our staff and do what we have to do within the remits of the law,” Madam Jean Mensa said on Friday, July 19 when she briefed the lawmakers on the conduct of the 2024 general elections.

She added “There is no way EC can change election results in favour of any candidate.”

“We accepted this job knowing posterity will judge us, we have integrity,” she further stated.

Madam Jean Adukwei Mensa earlier assured that all the processes leading up to the 2024 general elections will be transparent and fair.

She says all stakeholders including the political parties, and the citizens will be involved in the entire process.

She said this during the presentation of the Democracy Cup to the EC by the leadership of Parliament in Accra on Wednesday,  July 17.

“Just like the football match we serve as the midwives that birth the elections, we are the referees that conduct, that lay the elections and the processes that lead to the election day itself.

“So as referees we are committed to ensuring that our activities from now in the lead up to the election and all our electoral processes are transparent, they are open, they are fair, and they involve the collaboration of our key stakeholders, that is, the political parties and the citizenry.”

“We commit to ensuring transparency in all aspects of our work…We will commit to maintaining and showing that level of transparency across all aspects of our work.

“So, we also want to entreat and call upon the contestants of the election to accept the outcomes of the election. Surely there will be a winner and surely there will be losers,” she stated.
