Special aide to Samia Nkrumah denies alliance with NPP

Samia Nkrumah

Dr. Patrick Ekye Kwesie, special aide to Samia Nkrumah, former Member of Parliament for Jomoro Constituency and daughter of Ghana’s first president, has refuted allegations made by Deputy Minority Leader Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah.

Buah claimed that Samia’s independent candidacy is being sponsored by the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Speaking at the official campaign launch of the NDC in Jomoro Constituency on Sunday, August 25, Buah alleged that in 2009, when Samia won the seat, former President Atta Mills asked her to remain neutral and not join either of the two major parties.

However, Buah claimed that Samia refused and instead took a stance that aligned her with the NPP.

“In 2009, when Samia Nkrumah sought to contest for the parliamentary seat on the CPP ticket, the late President Atta Mills invited her and me to a meeting.

He expressed his admiration for her father, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, and offered his support for her candidacy, promising that the NDC would not field a candidate in Jomoro.

He requested that Samia remains neutral and not align herself with the NPP. Samia agreed to this request, but ultimately reneged on her promise.

She aligned herself with the NPP, who allegedly deceived her, leading to her failure. As a result, Jomoro missed out on a significant opportunity for development. Today, she is campaigning to return to parliament, but we must remember her past actions.” Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah stated.

Meanwhile Dr. Kwesie has denied these allegations, dismissing them as unfounded and mischievous. He maintained that Samia’s decision to run as an independent candidate is a testament to her commitment to serving the people of Jomoro Constituency without partisan bias.

“That’s not true. Samia has always been a candidate of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) and has now chosen to run as an independent candidate. There is no truth to the claims being made. She has never been affiliated with the NPP or NDC, and now she’s being labeled as independent-minded and committed to serving the people of Jomoro. We must disregard these false claims and recognize her as a genuine independent candidate.” He explained.
