The Vetting Committee of the People’s National Convention (PNC) on Friday August 23 concluded vetting of presidential aspirants and individuals seeking to occupy key positions in the party.
Two aspirants; David Apasera and Bernard Anbataayela Mornah will slug it out for the presidential candidate slot.
Samson Asaki Awingobit and one other candidate are vying for the National Chairman position.
The incumbent Deputy General Secretary, Yakubu Faharudeen is being challengedby Awudu Ishaq over the General Secretary slot.
Abass Nuhu is seeking the delegates’ votes to renew his mandate as the National Organizer of the party, but his dream will be fulfilled after he has defeated his contender, Nii Noi Osekan. Two individuals are also contesting the National Women’s Organiser position.
Bernard Anbataayela Mornah and David Apasera were confident to lead the party as they exited the vetting room.
According to David Apasera, a strategy aimed at propelling the party into the elections has been adopted adding the party must unite.
He indicated that his vision for the party after being elected leader in previous elections have not been realised due to the internal wrangling that rocked the party.
He said he wants his mandate renewed by the delegates so he can actualise his vision for the PNC.
Bernard Anbataayela Mornah on his part said he will cancel ex-gratia if he wins power in 2025. He said, “I can’t see why people continue to receive end of service benefits every four years when they are constant Members of Parliament.”
“I will cancel it because it is an avenue that people use to reap money from the poor Ghanaian,” he added.
National Chairman Aspirant, Samson Asaki Awingobit who is poised to correct what he terms as failures of the previous leadership, also explained that he will re-brand the party and make it marketable to Ghanaians when the delegates give him the nod.
For the General Secretary aspirants, amending the party’s constitution to reflect its brand is a priority.
The party has scheduled August 31 for congress.
