Our diminutive nature makes producers cast us as demons and dwarfs; we can do more than that – Nii Nortey

Aspiring actor, Nii Nortey has expressed worry over how producers and directors incessantly cast diminutive persons for demonic roles.

Speaking about his challenges as a diminutive person who has featured in a few plays and drama, Nii Nortey lamented how he’s been used for only roles like acting as dwarf and demons.

He explained in an interview with Berla Mundi on The Day Show aired last Saturday, that he has interest in other roles and believes he can efficiently act other roles aside what he’s been usually casted for.

Nii Nortey appealed to producers and directors to give diminutive persons the free will to showcase their talents in other roles other than acting as demons and dwarfs.

“They will use you as demon and dwarf but it isn’t supposed to be so because you can gibe me another role where I can fit and act perfectly but they will always ask you act as a demon,” he stated.

Despite his reservations, Nii Nortey is optimistic that things will turn around for persons like him not to be used for such roles anymore.

“I do it because I believe that at a point in time, I will not be acti g as a demon and I will stand up to advocate for other roles where I can do perfectly,” he added.

“We must come together with a similar objective that we want to change our roles and showcase our inherent talent and tell the directors we want to show our inner talents,” Nii Nortey emphasized on how the narrative can be changed.
