The Convention Peoples Party (CPP) has debunked assertions that the party will not be fielding a presidential candidate for the December 7, 2024 elections.

Chairperson of the Convention Peoples Party, Nana Akosua Sarpong Kumankuma said the party is ready to participate in the upcoming polls.

Speaking to 3news.com, the CPP chairperson expressed confidence in the polls.

So far, two party members, former flagbearer of the party, Ivor Kobina Greenstreet and the serving chairman of the party, Nana Akosua Sarpong Kumankuma have already filed to contest the presidential slot of the party.

Responding to information circulating on social media that the party will not field a candidate for the December 7, polls, Nana Sarpong Kumankuma noted that such information surfaced as a result internal frustrations occasioned by delay in internal processes.

She said, “Am definitely coming as a Presidential Candidate so do not want to engage too much on internal issues.”

She further indicated that, “myself and him (Ivor Greenstreet) were the only contestants who supposedly filed. We will see.”

However, both individuals will need endorsement of the delegates to actualize their vision for the party.

The CPP is one of the Nkrumahist parties plagued by internal wranglings. The party has been struggling to make itself attractive to the electorates and broaden its support base.
