Leticia Martekie Sankah, the assistant Chef who supported Chef Ebenezer Smith in his cook-a-thon attempt has pleaded for forgiveness for the fake Guinness World Records Certificate presented by Chef Smith.

She further explained that she was only interested in showing her culinary skills and was “unaware of the fraudulent intentions.”

Leticia Sankah expressed her remorse for her contributions to Chef Smith’s controversy and apologised.

“I offer my sincerest apologies for my involvement in Chef Smith’s cooking marathon. I was unaware of the fraudulent intentions and believed I was supporting a friend in a legitimate endeavor.

“My intention was to showcase my culinary skills and support someone I trusted.

“However, I now understand that my actions contributed to the situation. I take full responsibility for my part and assure you that I have learned from this experience,” her Facebook post read.

After ending her cook-a-thon attempt in March 2024, Chef Smith on July 2, organised a press conference and announced himself as the new record holder for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.

TV3 receives confirmation from GWR that Chef Smith’s record certificate is not genuine

Chef Smith at the press conference organised at Labadi Beach Hotel, presented a certificate to ascertain that he is the current Guinness World Record holder for the longest cooking by an individual.

However, it turned out that the certificate was not genuine. Chef Smith had forged his own certificate. This was revealed after a media organization, TV3 sought an inquiry from the Guinness World Record about Chef Smith’s GWR certificate.

In response to TV3, the GWR maintained that the current record holder for the longest cooking by an individual is still Alan Fisher from Ireland.

The GWR explained that Chef Smith does not hold any title for the longest cooking record and has not been awarded any certificate.

‘We can confirm this is not true. Chef Smith does not hold the GWR title and that is not our certificate,” GWR said in its response to TV3.

In a dramatic manner, Chef Smith has apologised for his actions. In a yet-to-be aired interview with Accra-based channel, GH One TV, he claimed his quest to satisfy his hunger caused his actions.

He expressed remorse for his actions pleading for forgiveness from Ghanaians.

“I apologise to the world that I am so sorry, I don’t deserve to live but my hunger caused my actions and landed me this way.

“I am sorry to the entire nation,” a remorseful Chef Smith said while wailing uncontrollably.
