Greater Accra Assembly Members support NPP’s Electoral Area Share of the Common Fund initiative

The Greater Accra Association of Assembly Members has expressed strong support for the 2024 manifesto promise by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP flag-bearer, to institute an Electoral Area Share of the Common Fund (EASCF).

According to the Association, the initiative, aimed at facilitating development at the grassroots level, is crucial for empowering Assembly Members and addressing the pressing needs of various communities.

Alfred Asiedu Adjei, the General Secretary of the Association, asserted that the proper implementation of this policy directive would drive significant progress across the country.

According to the group, Assembly Members are central to local governance, and the EASCF would provide them with the necessary resources to fulfill their mandate effectively.

“We are here to unambiguously express our support for the proposal put forward by His Excellency Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia during the recent manifesto launch,” Adjei stated.

“The proposal to institute an Electoral Area Share of the Common Fund dedicated to Assembly Members is not just timely—it is essential for the accelerated development of our communities.”

The Role of Assembly Members

The Association emphasized the crucial role that Assembly Members play in local governance, noting that they are directly engaged with the communities they serve. According to their statement, Assembly Members mediate conflicts, mobilize resources, and initiate development projects, but the current challenges, particularly the insufficient resources allocated to them, often leave them stretched thin.

“The demands on our time, energy, and resources are immense,” Adjei noted, reflecting the sentiments of the group. “Yet, the resources allocated to us are not enough to meet these demands. For Ghana to progress, our local areas must be empowered with the necessary tools to drive that progress,” the group argued.
