Deloitte 2024 Technology, Media and Telecom predictions: Experts upbeat about impact of economy

Experts who graced the Deloitte Ghana 2024 Technology, Media and Telecom (TMT) predictions webinar are upbeat about the impact of the changing trend of TMT on the Ghanaian and African economies.

Jania Okwechime, Partner, Data Analytics and AI at Deloitte Nigeria who gave an overview of the difference between Traditional Artificial Intelligence and Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) said “While Traditional AI predicts a value in real time, Generative AI can create artifacts and it’s beneficial to business growth in the form of business strategy, taking customer experience to a hyper-personalized level through more engaging experience for customers.”

These elements, she said, are at the forefront of innovation and expansion, impacting and reshaping society and driving economic growth in Ghana and beyond.

For his part, Dr. Ing Kenneth Ashigbey, Chief Executive Officer, Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications, said the telecom sector has since 2016 prioritised issues in Environmental, Sustainability and Governance with the GSMA (Global Organization for the Telecommunication Industry), driving the Sustainable Development Goals.

He expressed the need for collaboration through public-private partnerships, academia, and non-governmental organisations to drive sustainability in the TMT sector.

“Even though the telecommunication sector is driving the digitisation agenda, there is a need to look into how other verticals are considering sustainability when they are coming up with policies. Because as we drive these innovative changes across all sectors, we must take the earth, where we live into consideration because the earth is highly important”, he added.

In addressing coverage gaps, Emmanuel Kwarteng, CEO of MainOne Ghana, highlighted the need for policymakers to ensure that the rural folks have easy access to the internet and other digital infrastructures.

This he believes will bridge the internet gap.

For sustainable digital transformations in multimedia and telecommunication, Alex Okyere, Managing Director of MultiChoice Ghana, said there will be much improvement if internet penetration increases and its associated cost declines.

This webinar also highlighted the importance of collaboration in driving sustainability in the TMT sector.
