Ayawaso West Wuogon NPP gives blow-by-blow account of Sunday’s attack on campaign office

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency in the Greater Accra Region has expressed deep regret and sadness over the attack of its campaign office on Sunday, July 7 by some persons they claim are members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to the NPP constituency branch, they are shocked by the incident, describing it as an affront to democracy.

Giving a blow-by-blow narration of the 5-hour standoff at its campaign office, the NPP said the incident lingered on until police arrived to calm the situation.

In a statement signed by Constituency Secretary Alhaji Issah Sawadogo on Monday, July 8, the party said: “At about 4:30pm on Sunday, July 7, 2024, the NPP Constituency Organizer (Mr. Agyenim Boateng) was supervising a meeting on behalf of the Member of Parliament, Hon. Lydia Seyram Alhassan, with some sections of Party Volunteers and Constituency Executives.

“To our uttermost surprise, there appeared a group of people led by the NDC Constituency Women’s Organiser of Ayawaso West Wuogon, Madam Victoria Naematu Nadolie Abdulai, and the NDC Constituency Youth Organiser, Theophilus Kodzo Bedzrah, who broke into our premises and forcefully entered the main hall where the meeting was held.

“They started filming the meeting and subsequently pounced on the people fiercely. The unfortunate incident led to grave assault on our Constituency Organizer (Mr. Yaw Agyenim Boateng) who sustained severe injuries and bruises all over the body, and mass destruction of properties within the premises including some plastic chairs.

“Amid the unforeseen circumstances, Madam Victoria, the NDC Women’s Organizer, called some thugs from the NDC Greater Accra Regional office led by Mr Ottu, the NDC Constituency Chairman of Ayawaso Central who was accompanied by some 20 macho men.

“These men came in to cause further destruction of properties leading to the damages of our two cars. We are shocked by this repulsive action orchestrated by the NDC women’s organizer as it is an upfront to our democracy. We are therefore by this notice, calling on the Ghana Police Service to arrest the assailants who were involved in the mayhem. The arrest and approach of the police would go a long way to deter others from future occurrences of these unpardonable acts.”
