Agona Nkwanta-Tarkwa road to be completed by December – Tarkwa-Nsuaem MCE

The Municipal Chief Executive of Tarkwa-Nsuaem, Benjamin Kessie, has expressed satisfaction with the progress of work on the Agona Nkwanta to Tarkwa road, a key project under the NPP’s 2020 manifesto.

Despite missing the August 31 deadline, the contractor has achieved significant progress, with the road now 89% complete.

The project, funded by a €95 million facility from Deutsche Bank AG Frankfurt, Germany, was launched by President Akufo-Addo on September 3, 2021.

The 67-kilometer road will connect Tarkwa, a major economic hub, to the port city of Takoradi and the national route N1, linking Ghana to Cote D’Ivoire.

While the NPP’s 2020 manifesto promises, such as the gold refinery and Gold Museum, are yet to be fulfilled, the ongoing road reconstruction is a notable achievement.

The Municipal Chief Executive is optimistic that the project will be completed by December this year.

“The route from Agona Nkwanta to Tarkwa was a challenge for commuters and passengers for the past five years, but I’m pleased to say that it’s no longer a concern. Gabriel Couto was contracted by the government to undertake the construction, and I’m personally impressed with the progress made so far. However, there are some minor issues at the main station that have taken a while to resolve.

“Apparently, they experienced problems with their asphalt production plant, but that has been addressed. Overall, I’m impressed, and everyone who sees the work is impressed too, especially with the speed at which it’s being completed,” Mr Kesse said.

Additionally, Benjamin Kessie is confident that the new senior high school at Nsuaem, another manifesto promise, will admit students in the next academic year, despite delays in completion.

Mr Benjamin Kesse

“The work is progressing steadily, although the speed at which it’s advancing is not what we had anticipated. However, we are hopeful that if everything goes according to plan, we will be able to enroll students in the next academic year at the Nsuaem secondary school.” he promised.

This progress comes as the NPP prepares to launch its 2024 manifesto in Takoradi on Sunday, August 18.
