African Humanitarian Award 2025 launched in Accra

The 2025 African Humanitarian Award has been launched in Accra with an announcement that the event will span a two-day period.

The launch was held at the UDS Guest House in Accra on Saturday, July 13.

Addressing journalists, Event Lead Samuel Akinyemi, who also doubles as the Publisher of Elgee Info Media, organisers of the award scheme, said the idea of holding the event in Ghana is to get the attention of other African countries and get the needed support.

He revealed that over the two days, the first day of the event, dubbed Humanitarian Day, will be specially dedicated to the needy and vulnerable while the second day will be the Awards Day.

According to Mr Akinyemi, the essence of the prestigious award event is to recognise and celebrate exceptional individuals who dedicate themselves to philanthropic endeavours and humanitarian services across Africa.

He described these individuals as “our everyday heroes, particularly the doctors fighting for better healthcare, the educators breaking down barriers to knowledge, and the peace builders fostering dialogue and unity throughout the continent”.

The award categories, 13 in all, include: Education, Healthcare, Poverty Alleviation, Empowerment of Women and Girls, Environmental Sustainability, Peace Building and Conflict Resolution, Humanitarian Innovation, Lifetime Achievement Award, Special Recognition, Art for Humanity, and Company with Humanitarian Achievements.

Among dignitaries expected to be present are former Ghana First Lady Lordina Mahama, Nigeria First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, and Ivory Coast First Lady Dominique Ouattara.
