Ejisu Constituency NPP steps up reconciliation efforts ahead of December poll
In a deliberate effort to ensure maximum unity within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ejisu constituency of the Ashanti Region ahead of the 2024 elections, the Chairman of the Ashanti Region Reconciliation Team, Edward Boateng, on Saturday, August 17, 2024, held a crucial meeting with former constituency party executives in Ejisu.
The gathering, facilitated by Dr. Kwame Agyeman-Budu, aimed at fostering unity while enhancing effective collaboration among the leadership of the party and members in the region.
Internal wrangling in the party deepened in 2022 after their polling station election. Some agitated members of the party in the constituency labelled the process as “unfair.”
Four-time lawmaker, Mr Aduomi even left the party to contest as independent candidate in the April by-election after the demise of the then incumbent MP, Dr John Ampontuah Kumah.
However, on August 5, the Ashanti Regional Council of Elders met with Mr Aduomi to resolve his issue with the party, leading to his decision not to contest the December parliamentary election as an independent candidate.
As a follow up to the earlier engagement, the Ashanti Region Reconciliation Team of the ruling party, has met former executives of the Ejisu constituency most of whom had earlier expressed reservation over losing their positions two years ago.
“The meeting served as a follow-up to the recent engagement with Owusu-Aduomi last week, where similar concerns were raised” Emelda Antwi, secretary to the committee told 3news.com
In attendance at the meeting was the incumbent Member of Parliament for the Ejisu constituency, Kwabena Boateng (Esq), who doubles as the party’s Parliamentary Candidate.
According to Ms Emelda “key issues discussed included the recognition of the importance of peacebuilding, cohesion, and teamwork within the Party in the Ejisu constituency in the Ashanti Region.”
“To the Chairman of the committee, there is an urgent need for all members to work together towards a common goal, particularly as the party prepares for the upcoming electoral activities.”
She said, “Chairman of the reconciliation committee Edward Boateng assured attendees that more of such engagements will be organized to maintain momentum and resolve any lingering conflicts within the party.”
