The Ghana Plastic Manufacturers’ Association (GPMA) and its Partners have called of their intended strike scheduled for July 10, 2024.
The GPMA in a press release dated July 8 said the strike has been called off to enable them engage in further discussion with the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
“The Ghana Plastic Manufacturers’ Association (GPMA) and its Partners, the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA), the National Association of Sachet & Packaged Water Producers (NASPAWAP), the Food & Beverage Association of Ghana (FABAG), the Plastic Sellers Association of Ghana (PSAG), wishes to inform the manufacturing sector, the general business community and the general public that, we have held a fruitful discussion with Government (i.e. The Ministry of Trade & Industry) on Friday the 5th of July, 2024 on the issue of the implementation of 5% Excise Tax on all locally manufactured plastic products,” part of the press release reads.
It added that, “The Hon. Deputy Minister for Ministry of Trade & Industry, Hon. Michael Okvere Baafi (MP) has shown good faith and has assured us that, he will facilitate further engagements and dialogue with Government and also immediately trigger the necessary mechanisms and procedures to stop the implementation of the 5% Excise Tax.
The press release concluded that, “To this end GPMA and its partners, GUTA, NASPAWAP, FABAG and PSAG wishes to state as follows: We have Called-Off our intended demonstration that was scheduled for the 10th of July 2024, we have put on hold our intended plan to SHUT-DOWN productions.”
