The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Volta Region led by the Volta Regional Secretary, James Gunu has written to the Electoral Commission demanding integrity and efficiency of the electoral process ahead of election 2024.
In a press release dated May 27, 2024, the NDC made the following demands:
Free Replacement of Lost Voter ID Cards for Flood Victims: “We urge the Electoral Commission (EC) to implement a localized plan to facilitate the free replacement of lost voter ID cards for flood victims residing in camps and resettlement homes”.
Inclusion of Cleared Challenged Registrants in Main Database: “It is crucial to integrate the data of those challenged during registration and subsequently cleared by the District Registration Review Committees (DRRCs) into the EC’s main database”.
Reallocation of Registration Kits to Manage High Turnout: We request the reassignment of registration kits used during the extended registration period in Ketu South and Ho Central to their respective district offices to manage high turnout effectively.
Permitting Political Party Agents During Key Processes: “We request the presence of political party agents at EC offices from May 30th to June 14th, 2024, to enhance transparency in voter transfers, replacement of lost voter ID cards, proxy voting, and special vote applications”.
Establishment of Challenge Mechanism for Voter Transfers: Implement a system allowing challenges to voter transfer applications to ensure the accuracy and legitimacy of the voter register.
Development of a Post-Exhibition Voter Verification Software: Propose the development of a software system enabling voters to verify their registration status even after the exhibition period and once the final register has been published.
According to the party, the requests are aimed at enhancing the electoral process and safeguard every eligible Ghanaian’s right to vote.
