TGMA: Ras Kuuku laments continuous non-nomination into Male Vocalist Category

Reggae Dancehall artiste, Ras Kuuku has bemoaned his continuous disregard for nomination into the Male Vocalist Category by the board of the Ghana Music Awards.

Ras Kuuku said despite his continuous filing for the nomination into the Male Vocalist category every year, he is still not nominated even when he files with his best hit songs.

The Dancehall artiste believes that he’s got the best vocal delivery and should have been nominated and win the category every year.

According to him, many Ghanaians and his fans have always wondered and questioned why the Ghana Music Awards fail to nominate him for the category.

“The whole Ghana [everybody thinks I should be there] and win it. I filed for it and even filed for best collaboration. Whenever they release VGMA nomination and I talk, they say Ras Kuuku always have something to say. Each and every year, people are like why don’t they put Ras Kuuku in the male vocalist of the year,” Ras Kuuku said on TV3’s New Day on May 24.

Meanwhile, artiste manager and entertainment pundit, Sammy Flex, said the cut-off point for the said category may be the reason for Ras Kuuku not being nominated.

Although, Sammy Flex believes Ras Kuuku has got the vocals to be nominated into that category, he explained that his non-nomination is not intentional but could be due to the cut-off point for the Male Vocalist category.

“Sometimes when it comes to these awards nominations and categorization, there is something we call the cut-off point. For instance, if the category for best male vocal performance they are looking for six or seven people and Ras Kuuku was even enlisted and he happens to come after the six or seven, he will be affected.

“Especially when the people think that in the category, this particular voice comes before him. Sometimes it happens,” Flex explained.
