Train accident: Pressure mounts on Enterprise Insurance to pay claim

Pesa, the train manufacturer, purchased full insurance to cover the shipment and testing of the Diesel Multiple Unit train it delivered to Ghana in April.

During the testing phase of the vehicle, a parked car on the railway line caused an accident.

3business sources say the accident was covered by insurance provided by Enterprise, and both Pesa and the Government of Ghana expected Enterprise to pay for the repair of the train.

Pesa, according to our sources, has sent a claim to Enterprise with an estimate of the repair costs to hand over the train to the Government of Ghana.

Our sources say Enterprise is yet to formally engage Pesa on the claim and arrange for payment so the repairs can begin.

When 3Business reached out to the Sector Minister to find out why, three months after the accident, the train has not been fixed and remains at the yard, the minister explained that he is not an insurance company.

He asked 3Business to inquire from Enterprise why they are yet to fund the repair of the train or engage with the manufacturers to discuss the repair, even though the train is fully insured with paidup premium.

According to our checks, Pesa is desperately seeking a meeting with Enterprise to discuss their claim as well as when payment will be made for the repair works to commence.

Enterprise, when contacted by 3Business, assured they would respond to the issues raised in due course.
