Heal Komfo Anokye Project: 40% of required funds raised

The Managers of the Heal Komfo Anokye Project have disclosed that 40% of the required amount has been raised so far.

That is to say $4million out of the $10million needed for the project has been received.

Speaking on Ghanakoma morning show on Akoma 87.9 FM in Kumasi with Sir John, on June 18, the Chairman of the Heal Komfo Anokye Project, Sammy Adu Boakye, was impressed about the progress of work.

Renovations are currently underway at the Ghana’s second largest teaching hospital, which needed $10million to be restored.

The roofing has been finished with 40% of the monies raised.

“We have not had a single leak in any of the wards since the previous rainstorm. We are currently destroying the A3, A4 and A5 wards after moving on from the roofing work,” he said.

The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital is finding it difficult to offer a comfortable and therapeutic atmosphere because of the deteriorating quality of the four traditional blocks, even though it receives referrals from 12 of the country’s 16 regions.

In 2023 November, the Asantehene established the “Heal Komfo Anokye Fund” in response to repeated requests for the facility’s condition to be improved.

The Chairman of Heal Komfo Anokye Project, Sammy Adu Boakye, stated that, renovation had been on the drawing board of the hospital for the last 50 years, but had to be shelved due to lack of funds.

Mr Adu Boakye highlighted that persistent over utilisation and consequent wear and tear over the years have made the structure unfit for the provision of contemporary healthcare services.

“Plumbing, electrical wires, windows, roofing, washrooms and all ancillary facilities have for years now deteriorated beyond maintenance,” he stated.

Describing the initiative as a bold decision that reflects the embodiment of the Asante Kingdom, he appealed to stakeholders and all to continue contribute to the project or fund initiated by Asantehene.

He observed, “our mission is to join great forces to rehabilitate, revitalise, to heal Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

According to him, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital has been the healing point for every soul within this part of Ghana.
