Founding member of NPP asks government to address high prices of goods and services

Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe

A founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has expressed concerns over the government’s inability to address the spiraling prices of essential goods and services in the country.

Speaking on 3FM Sunrise, Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe lamented that the situation has impacted Ghanaians seriously.

“These days when you talk of pocket, almost every individual you come across has an empty pocket,” lamented one Ghanaian citizen.

“It’s very disturbing, and it appears our mothers in the market have vowed to keep increasing the prices of goods just as they like. Apart from the fact that it has an impact on the individual physically, psychologically and even medically. It’s a situation that if we are not careful it can create a big, big problem,” he lamented.

He further alleged that funds intended for critical infrastructure, such as clean water projects, are being diverted into private pockets.

“When we have a situation where you need just about $5 million to provide good cleaning water for the people, somebody would take the money and put into his pocket,” said one concerned citizen. “Why is it happening in Africa and nowhere else in the civilized world?” He quizzed.

The founding member argued that government has failed to address the needs of the people who elected them.

“Why would people come to power and fail the people that gave them the mandate? Why?” He asked

Ghana is currently facing its most severe economic crisis in decades. Over the past two years, the country has experienced record-high inflation rates. The Bank of Ghana, the nation’s central banking authority, has faced criticism in some circles for its role in Ghana’s economic difficulties, which have significantly impacted the profitability of the country’s banking sector.
