Election 2024: CPP debunks report about not prepared to field candidates

The Convention’s People’s Party (CPP) has refuted reports suggesting that the party will not field presidential candidates for the 2024 elections.

In a memo to its members on Wednesday, June 26, the party said it had already initiated a process to select candidates for the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections which will soon be finalised.

“The Independent Committee of the CPP wishes to debunk this information. For the avoidance of doubt, the Party is currently finalising an organisational programme of activities leading to selection of candidates to contest the December 7 Presidential and Parliamentary elections,” the statement noted.

It added that the rank and file of the party will be informed of the detailed programme outlined to select candidates by next week.

“Comrades are advised to desist from pronouncements and actions that can potentially undermine the internal cohesion and fortunes of the Party,” CPP counseled its members.

The Chairperson of the party, Nana Akosua Sarpong Kumankuma in an exclusive interview with 3news.com also debunked the reports.

She claimed that the party is ready to participate in the upcoming polls and declared her intention to contest the internal election of presidential candidate for the party.

“I’m definitely coming as a Presidential Candidate so do not want to engage too much on internal issues.”

She further indicated that, “myself and him (Ivor Greenstreet) were the only contestants who supposedly filed. We will see.”

The CPP is one of the Nkrumahist parties plagued by internal wranglings. The party has been struggling to make itself attractive to the electorates and broaden its support base.
