Bawumia will be better off if he choses Opoku Prempeh as running mate – Vincent Ekow Assafuah

Deputy Minister for Local Government has endorsed the Energy Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh for the running mate position of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

The Vice-President and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party is yet to chose his running mate for the December polls, despite the party’s rules stipulating that the running mate must be chosen a year to the elections.

In an interview with Johnnie Hughes on 3FM’s Sunrise, Vincent Ekow Assafuah touted Dr. Mathhew Opoku Prempeh’s personalities and capabilities which he deems fit for the running mate position.

“I have no doubts in my mind that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will be better off if he chooses Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as his running mate. He [Opoku Prempeh] is someone who has demonstrated to the Ghanaian people that when it comes to the work, he can deliver,” he said on Wednesday, June 26.

Dr. Mathhew Opoku Prempeh has been leading the list of persons expected to be named as running mate by Dr. Bawumia.

But there are concerns about some utterances made by the Energy Minister which did not augur well with Ghanaians, key amongst is his response to Ghanaians when a timetable for dumsor was demanded.

You recall the Energy Minister responded to a question from a journalist about a timetable for dumsor, telling Ghanaians who demanded for a ‘dumsor’ timetable to ‘do it themselves’.

Responding to this, the Old Tafo Legislator said “that’s his personal comment and that does not put food on our table.”

To him, Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s composure, intelligence and brilliance is what matters to be in the position.

“I put all my bet on him,” Vincent Ekow Assafuah strongly posited.

Dr. Bawumia is expected to name his running mate by the end of June as the December polls draws closer.
