Flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has criticised his opponent, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for attempting to absolve himself of Ghana’s “disastrous” economic conditions.

Mr Mahama said the flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and head of the Economic Management Team (EMT), Dr Bawumia, has been at the epicentre of the country’s disastrous present.

He further underscored that the presidency is a serious business and hence cannot entertain the passing of “a mystical steer to somebody.”

The former president emphasised the urgent challenges facing Ghanaians, maintaining that the upcoming December 7 election cannot be trivialised with jokes and comedy.

Moreover, the 2024 flagbearer of the NDC argued that the job of the president should be taken seriously, especially given the current challenges confronting Ghanaians.

The politics of deception and sloganeering, according to Mr Mahama, have no place in Ghana’s current political landscape, asserting that such conduct would not be tolerated by the Ghanaian electorate.

“Ghanaians are in dire straits and this is not the time for comedy. This is not for a concert party about passing the mythical steer to somebody. There is no space for stale falsehoods and gas lighting.

“It is unimaginable the narrative by some people that they have championed everything under this government, and at the same time are not responsible for anything under the same government because they were a self-styled driver’s mate.”

“It is simply not tenable and an insult to the intelligence of the electorates, and the presidency cannot be presented to those who present themselves as the future when they have been at the epicentre of our disastrous present,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Mr Mahama has promised that his administration will probe and reclaim all state lands that have been stolen by officials of the Akufo-Addo government.

He accused the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government of supervising the “unprecedented disposing” of state lands and properties.

Additionally, the leader of the NDC maintained that such actions cannot continue unchecked, stressing his determination to ensure these lands are reclaimed for the state
