We’ve limited Reggae Dancehall to just Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy; we’re not shining lights on others – King Lagazee laments

Radio and TV Personality, King Lagazee has said Ghanaians only associate the Dancehall music genre to only two artistes; Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale, giving both artistes all the recognition and praise.

This, he said is not contributing to the development of the genre in Ghana as other dancehall artistes have been regulated to the back by Ghanaians.

Speaking on TV3’s New Day on Friday, May 17, King Lagazee noted that other dancehall artistes like Episode, Ras Kuuku and Jupitar are doing amazing works but have not been praised with the focus on just two artistes.

“The [Dancehall] genre is still moving. We have the likes of Episode and Ras Kuuku, all these artistes are working so hard. I don’t know the main reason why Ghanaians have decided to limit our efforts to only Stonebwoy and Shatta and we have other artistes doing great works.

“I sit down and I’m like what is going on? I have a lot of artistes who I’m pushing on my radio show so why don’t we shine light on them? Why is it always about Shatta and Stonebwoy?” he asked.

Citing himself as an example, King Lagazee said he recently won a reggae sound clash competition in Jamaica and such huge achievement has not spoken about.

“Our Reggae Dancehall category is not dieing at all. There are a lot of artistes in Ghana doing a lot of works…we don’t talk about all these things and talking about Shatta and Stone,” he added.

King Lagazee expressed his concerns in an interview on TV3’s New Day on Friday during a discussion on the Dancehall genre of Ghana’s music industry.
